Instructions:

Please reference the Patches on a Fleece Vest Lesson for creating the patch itself and heat pressing the patch onto a garment.

Because most knit caps are actually made of a sillicone or sillicone blend fabric it’s not advisable to heat press. That material may melt or scorch.

During this video we’ll show you the steps to sew a patch onto a garment in lieu of heat pressing.

Hooping the Cap [Video 2:10]

Cut a square of cutaway backing that is slightly larger than the hoop you’ll be using. In this application you can use either the 2.5oz or 3.0oz backing material.

Apply Temp Spray onto one  side of the backing. That will stick the backing to the inside of the cap, which is particularly needed because of the elasticity of the fabric.

Hoop the cap.

Then spray the back of the patch with the Tempo Spray as well. Keep it ready for after the outline stitch is sewn for placement.

Placing the Patch [Video 2:40]

Program your running stitch to be the same color as your patch border. Then sew out that outer running stitch for placement.  (there should be a stop programmed in here. If not, just manually pause the sew out.

Place the patch within the outline, pressing down lightly to make sure it will not shift during sew out. Then restart the sew out.

Your patch should now be securely sewn onto the knit cap

Pro Tip:

When digitizing for the patch, request a 2 color running stitch on the inside border of your patch.
