Please reference training lessons on hooping caps and loading a design. This Applications lesson focuses on adding the vinyl/mixed media applique.

 Run Embroidery Design [Video 1:26]

You’ll load and run your design on the snap back trucker cap like you normally would. For this mixed media application we sewed out the text on one panel and will be doing the HTV Applique on the other.

There should be an auto -stop programmed in after the text part of the design is sewn so you can ready the heat transfer vinyl (htv) for the applique.

Applying the Vinyl/HTV [Video 2:42]

Cut out a small piece of the Triton Glitter vinyl. Make sure it’s slight larger than the embroidery outline you’re going to sew.

Then spray the back of the vinyl piece with the Tempo Spray. Make sure you’re spraying the vinyl and not the clear carrier part by peeling just a small corner piece up.

Once that’s sprayed, peel the HTV from the clear carrier part and stick the vinyl onto the cap where you’ll be sewing out the next part of your design. Hit Start and run your design.

Weeding the Vinyl [Video 3:41]

Once the next part of your design – the heart shown – has been sewn out and the machine stops, simply peel off the vinyl from the outside of the heart.

Remove the Cap and weed the remaining vinyl from the design with tweezers.

Finishing the Cap [Video 5:44]

Once the vinyl is weeded it’s time to heat press the HTV onto the cap.

Heat press using medium low pressure – Keep the backing in! – make sure you use the flexible finishing sheet folded over so you have 2 layers between the cap and the heat of the press.

Press at 300 degrees for about 10 seconds. You may need to test depending on your heat press and environment. Make sure that the vinyl is hot to the touch when you remove the cap from the press.

Now remove the cap backing and you’re done!

Pro Tip:

Marc

Make sure the htv is SMOOTH  and has an even adhesion to the cap. Small tears to make it fit the curve of the cap are ok.
