Instructions:

Hooping [Video 1:07]

First hoop the Towel by placing the bottom of the hoop on a flat surface, laying the backing on top and then the towel.

Check your spacing top and bottom, left and right to make sure you are positioning your design correctly before snapping on the top of the Allied hoop. [This will work with any hoop brand]

Make sure your towel is “drum tight” after hooping. Then load onto the machine.

Loading Design [Video 2:32]

Load your design – see the instructions for programming an offset for applique here:

For Avance 1501C – 2020

For Avance 1501C – Classic

For this 4 color design:

  1. Color 1 is the outline of the design where the twill will be tacked down
  2. Color 2 will actually tack down the twill
  3. Color 3 Outline of the stocking
  4. Color 4 Letter/initial design

Setting up the Design – Next Steps [standard]

Run the design

After color #1 is sewn out there should be a programmed stop between color changes. Make sure your design is specifically digitized for applique!

Once the design stops after color #1 it’s time to apply the twill applique material.

Applying the Applique Material [Video at 4:09]

  1. Cut a piece of twill to the size of the design and hoop – make sure it covers the color #1 outline sewout with plenty of room to spare!
  2. Apply spray adhesive to prevent shifting during sew out
  3. Fit the twill onto the towel, sticky side down
  4. Hit start (round button) to start stitching again

The machine should stop again after color #2 tacks down the twill material

Cutting the Twill [Video at 4:51]

Use the Applique Scissors to cut around the tack down stitch. Get as close as possible without cutting through those existing stitches.

Note: Leave the hoop on the machine while you do this if you can!

Once the applique is trimmed, start the machine again.

Finishing the Applique

  1. Un-hoop the towel
  2. Use standard scissors to trim the cutaway backing
  3. Use the fine point curved scissors to trim the applique where necessary

Pro Tip:

Sean Goeddaeus

I would have rotated the design 180* and had the majority of the towel hanging in front of the machine.

If I can, I never put the bulk of the garment under the head. For fear of it catching under the pantograph of being sewn.

And I would have sewn the applique first and cut it out, then when sewing on the garment, it make it easier to place.
